Experience
I have been a teacher for almost 30 years. I taught in Buffalo, NY before moving here (Milwaukee area) in 1997. Since moving here, I have taught full-time at the University School of Milwaukee for 3 years and then Franklin HS for 14 years. This year, I was a long-term sub at Greendale HS for 1 semester and Oconomowoc HS for the 2nd semester. I want to be a tutor to stay within the teaching profession and yet be removed from the negative political atmosphere of public education. I love to teach, but I am not a fan of the current trends in education. I feel students need a solid foundation on which to build and too many schools are skipping this. It's important to encourage students to work hard and not to just give everyone an A. Receiving an A should mean true excellence and doesn't come easily.

Hobbies
As hard as I work, I also like to play. When I have spare time, I like to read, play video games, garden, swim and go camping. When I was younger, I used to backpack through Pennsylvania (I'm originally from Buffalo, NY) on the weekends. Now, I use an inflatable mattress pad under my sleeping bag and prefer sites with electricity available. When I read, I like fantasy, science fiction and historic fiction. When I was young, I didn't like History. It's only recently that I have been learning a bit of history through my reading choices. I also have 2 big dogs (a Collie named Zoe and a Border Collie/Akita mix named Haku) who demand my attention. I adopted Haku from a student of mine whose family couldn't keep him. Although he's 100 lbs., he is scared of the dark!
